Public bug reported:

After apt-get update, upgrade, dist-upgrade tonight, something overlaid
/etc/network/interfaces. There were kernel, restricted modules, and
network manager upgrades processed.

The lines

auto etho
iface eth0 inet dhcp

were changed to

auto etho
# iface eth0 inet dhcp

As a result, network would not start. Repaired manually.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
