I did further testing with firefox dpi settings, and I found something new, 
depending whether Xft.dpi is set or not, the behavior will not be the same.
Also, firefox 1.5 seems awfully broken, while firefox 2.0 behaves much more 
like I expected.
I'll just attach a text file with what I saw, because I didn't manage to 
describe things clearly, and it wouldn't surprise me if no one understands..

I'm just confirming the first comments saying the fonts size go in the
opposite direction than what is expected with firefox 1.5 , and that it
isn't the case anymore with 2.0

However, I really don't understand bug 20116. When using 85 dpi in
gnome, and 96 dpi in firefox 1.5 (which afaik was the default), the
fonts are smaller in firefox than in gnome. But the screenshot shows
bigger fonts in firefox...
