Sorry, I mixed up kernel versions in my first comment above. Before 15.04, I used only the official kernel coming with the Ubuntu releases. So these were:
Ubuntu | Kernel 14.04 | 3.13 14.10 | 3.16 15.04 | 3.19 As written above, both kernels 3.13 and 3.16 had occasional hangs reporting the RTC and keyboard bus errors. I removed 3.13 kernel. Christopher M. Penalver, apport won't let me create a report with the mainline kernel (which boots fine).
