I have been experiencing this also.  I can usually reproduce it via the 
following steps.
1) Watch a video in totem
2) Switch to vty1
3) Observe it lock up or repeat 1 and 2 until it does

Here is the video card information from lspci:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile
945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a2]
(rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA])

The log file attached is after a crash.  There is also some detailed
information about a "Error in I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds".
