I installed the upstream kernel packages on my Acer Aspire 5920 laptop: linux-headers-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic_4.1.0-040100rc2.201505032335_amd64.deb linux-image-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic_4.1.0-040100rc2.201505032335_amd64.deb The machine booted successfully 3 times with warnings about installed packages having unmet dependencies. uname -r command confirmed that the expected kernel was running: 4.1.0-040100rc2-generic
Hope that helps.
