indeed - and i tried to follow the instructions and compile the kernel as indicated, but ended up being told lots of files missing (mostly header files). of course, i tried to download the linux headers and other stuff i thought was relevant, but that didn't really help. :-( sorry for being obviously not as intelligent as others on this list - and i don't mean to waste your time, to the contrary, i appreciate all the help provided thus far.
