It happened in my case as well. After the install, dpkg had problem with gnome-power-manager. When I tried to remove gnome-power-manager, Synaptic gave me the message: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. Of course running dpkg --configure -a is of no help, because it stops on... gnome-power-manager:).
