This bug is still there. I am using Okular 0.20.2 with KDE 4.14.2 on Kubuntu 14.10. Please try this pdf as a test:

If you change paper colour to gray (or something else) from Settings -> Configure Okular -> Accessibility -> Change colours -> change paper colour.
