Again see my last reply there, but this again is straying off topic. My understanding is that the system will actually be checked for proper compatibility before all of this. Worst case, it tries to start up, X dies, and restarts in Compatibility mode, Compiz is disabled, and all's fine, but the regular check should catch most things, so no worries =]
