Yes, I too have both the "edit connections" and "disconnect" buttons greyed out. Upgraded this week to 12.04 LTS, with all updates (levels 1-3) installed. They were not greyed out before installing the recommended updates.
Must disconnect by un-checking "enable wireless" box.
