Never mind - I tried another cable and it worked first time. The cable I'd been trying worked 100% (and had for months) with my existing laptop, but had apparently come unseated in such a way as to freak out the tg3. Arguably there's some bug here involving media detection (a fluke reckoned the cable was fine for 100Mbit, just not Gb - and as I said, it worked just fine with my older HP laptop), but especially since I can no longer reproduce the specific cable unseat that caused the problem, there's probably no point in keeping this bug open.
Anyway, sorry for the noise. ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- tg3 NIC not working on HP nc6320 laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
