OK, stopping this for today.  All I can see is that PhoneStage's
spreadView.contentX is set to 0 on startup, which means shiftedContentX
is inappropriately set to 'shift' (which is 'width / 2') on start.

Seems to be due to all the other changes in PhoneStage in that PPA to
deal with rotation.  But I couldn't see why it was happening.

Maybe someone that was working on those changes would know more / be
able to find the flaw faster.
