Could you try if version 2.9.9d+e-pre2-10 (from Debian Unstable) works for you? I have the bug 103072 open and with 2.9.9d+e-pre2-10 version I can compile slamr/slusb modules under Gutsy (kernel 2.6.22) so, if that version fix your problem it could be a better idea that Ubuntu packagers update this packages to that newer version, isn't it? Maybe with two opened bugs asking for the newer packages, they would be updated by Gutsy release.
