I have to come clean here. After noticing this bug, then finding all the hassle involved in running Firefox plugins etc under 64 bit Ubuntu, then reading about the minimal performance difference between 64 and 32 bit, I decided to start over again and install 32 bit Gutsy. This has just finished installing and upgrading. It does not have the same issue with metacity. I therefore cannot give you my .xsession-errors file. Unless someone else reports this, I believe this bug should be closed.
