- Initial installation via Ubuntu Software Centre resulted in a crashed dpkg session, locking it's debconf config.dat. - Running the Terminal version of sudo apt-get install matlab-support gave me that hint. Even rebooting doesn't help - Searching Google for the error line in apt-get found someone's fix; basically killall dpkg instances, unlock the config.dat and reboot. - I then ran the Terminal sudo apt-get install matlab-support again. It proceeded to ask me for my install directory, and whether I wanted to rename the included C libraries to make them gcc compatible (I said YES). - Problem Resolved.
