I have just gave a shot with gnome3-team's staging PPA. Upgraded, rebooted and my desktop seems perfectly smooth as butter again. I have actually forgot already how the desktop is *supposed* to work - it's THAT good compared to Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 + gnome3-team stable PPA installation.
