Hi Sebastian Your email is not clear regarding enabling or disabling updates.
Attached screen of Updates on Xubuntu 14.10 Software & Updates. With recommended updates set or not results are the same. In fact, I think that there is some misconfiguration in this new Xubuntu installation, because in another one in the office, I could compile Wireshark without errors.
