used pinning to down grade. first i tried to upgrade g77 to gusty, where my simple program compiled. the problem i had was with R and octave. I compiled the latest R from source and still had problems with gusty.
I downgraded g77, gfortran, octave, R, lapack3-dev, atlas-sse-dev and their dep. For atlas users, this system is not sse2.
