Sorry for being fuzzy. This is what happens: # lightdm greeting screen comes up after boot as expected. # trying to log in from the lightdm greeting screen (with whatever user to whatever desktop environment) # X11 is stopped, screen falls back to vt (black screen with a few white characters on it) for half a second or so. There is some output (error message) on vt, but there is no time for me to read it. # lightdm greeting screen is started again. I'm still not logged-in (but I can try over and over again).
Work-around: As already mentioned, logging in is possible by: # Cntrl-Alt-F2 (or some other combination) to get to a (non-graphical) vt. # Log in (non-graphical, i.e. without X11, lightdm greeting screen) on the vt # Starting the X11 user session, e.g. with 'startx /usr/bin/startkde -- :3' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1408275 Title: Unable to log in with lightdm To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1408275/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
