I think I may have a similiar problem - though my keyboard locks up, and I am unable to switch to another terminal or log out or turn off the WLAN. I'm using a Broadcom 4309 chipset with the bcm43xx driver and wpa_supplicant. This only happens when Network Manager is forced to scan repeatedly.
