if [ -f /boot/grub/grubenv ] ; then mv -f /boot/grub/grubenv /boot/grub/grubenv.old cp /boot/grub/grubenv.old /boot/grub/grubenv fi in /etc/rc.local fixes this issue for me - Ubuntu 14.04.x LTS.
