Thanks for the reply.
I installed kernel 3.18, which booted normally, but the same problems as before 
exist. The mouse is not recognized properly and the keyboard does not respond 
at all (it shows some messages about maximum number of hid usages being 
exceeded at startup).
xinput now only shows a single ITE Tech. Inc. ITE Device(8910) entry rather 
than the two it did before.
