@Tim Passingham, as I understood from Alan Stern in earlier posts, most modern computers emulate USB2 through USB3 root hub, so basically USB3 XHCI driver is used for all connected devices, and async usb audio support in XHCI driver is somewhat flawed. I also had similar problem a year a so ago, but it disappeared since then (now on Ubuntu 14.10 Arcam R-DAC).
