No idea either as this is the first report of this kind. Looking at
/var/lib/dpkg/info/xymon-client.postinst line 72ff. there seems no
chance that the files got mixed up there.

See my last mail for simple example. The package's template is at
/usr/share/xymon/xymon-client.default.template

The file itself is generated upon package installation based on the
above template.

You should be able to regenerate it with "dpkg-reconfigure -p low
xymon-client".
