I tried booting without the quiet and splash kernel options and made a photo of the last messages before the freeze (attached). I checked the logs and there are no errors reported. I also tried the whole process with a self-compiled kernel (2.6.22.6) but it's the exact same situation. I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 with a 2.6.20-16-generic kernel.
