I was having problems with mediawiki uploading files to ./images I tried the following:
chmod -R 777 ./images chown -R www-data ./images Neither worked or had an effect. I found the umask 111 at the bottom of /etc/apache2/envvars It was not until I removed this that uploads started working properly. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and did a LAMP install.
