I can confirm that there is also a problem with an HP Pavilion Laptop, running Feisty. CTRL-ALT-F7 and back to CTRL-ALT-F9 fixes it (I haven't tried the patch). The bug seems to have been around for a long time now and would encourage it to be fixed. A lap-top at home is often shared with one's partner/spouse.
