Public bug reported: The current gputils package on ubuntu (the GNU PIC compilation utilities for the microchip PIC embedded microprocessor series) is very out of date on the current version of Ubuntu. The ubuntu version is 0.13.7 from March 2009 while the current version is 1.3.0 from May 2014. Having such an old version of gputils makes it hard to build other packages that depend on gputils like gpsim. For example, the current version of gpsim does not build out of the box because its unit tests cannot run on such an over version of gputils.
I would like to update gputils to the current upstream version. If it's just a question of someone stepping up to maintain it, I would volunteer to do it.
