device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist Did this on four computers. Virtualbox works in a fresh install of "Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS" before doing update/upgrade to the new hal (graphic stack). Kernel before upgrade 3.11.0-26-generic #45~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Kernel after upgrade 3.13.0-39-generic #66~precise1-Ubuntu SMP - Did a apt-get purge virtualbox and did reinstall with the same failure.
