Public bug reported:

I have observed this on two laptops, but this report is based mainly on
the newest one, a Dell XPS m1330 which I'm installing Kubuntu Gutsy on.
The graphics card is an Intel X3100. The other also has an Intel card
and is installed with Feisty, with an upgraded X (to the Intel
modesettings driver).

The size of the monitor on this laptop is 1280x800, and xorg observes
this correctly, and sets the correct mode as seen by running xrandr on
the command line. The WM however (tested with both KDE and Xfce
(Xubuntu)), seems to not get any proper information about available
modes.

The following link is for a screenshot showing both KDE settings dialog
and xrandr output:

The result of this is that
1) There are artifacts when logging in to KDE as the graphics are adjusted for
a 1024x768 to the upper left (i.e the actual resolution is correct, but things
are only drawed in the upper left area, ignoring the rest).
2) kicker at first login is placed as if the monitor has a resolution of
1024x768. If I manually move it, it extends correctly to the full width, and I
can place it at the bottom. On subsequent logins, this is remembered.
3) when opening the K-menu, it is not connected to kicker, but starts somewhat
further up, I assume to fit into the 1024x768 window.
4) when maximizing a window, it always maximizes into the 1024x768 area to the
upper left. I can manually extend it to use all the screen estate. Maximizing
it again will again give it the 1024x768 size. The next link shows a screen
shot of a maxmized Konqueror.

I have tried 'kwin --replace' and 'dcop kdesktop MainApplication-
Interface quit && kdesktop&' without any notable differences.
