Public bug reported:

On wide-screen (15.4") laptops, when I set vga=0x314 option, I cannot
see the virtual console, that is when I switch from X to the virtual
console, I just get some messy colors. If I remove the splash and quiet
options, I am not even able to see the boot messages.

I also tried setting acpi=off, but that did not help.

This problem only appeared in Gutsy, it never appeared with Ubuntu since I was
using Breezy.
I tested on two HP Pavilion laptops, both have different graphics cards, one
has an Intel card, the other has nVidia. Both are 15.4" wide-screen.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
