I have the updated package installed:

    paul@paul-ThinkPad-W530:~$ sudo apt-show-versions unity
    unity:amd64/trusty-updates 7.2.3+14.04.20140826-0ubuntu1 uptodate

But I still got hit with this bug today.

Lenovo W530 in Optimus mode, second monitor attached to display port.

Usually only happens when both monitors are active, and when a
VirtualBox VM is on the screen. Today, I was on a workspace that didn't
include any VMs. First occurrence after locking I got a blank login on
one monitor but the second allowed me to enter password; a few minutes
later a second lock screen resulted in both monitors refusing to accept
a password.

unity --replace did restore the ability to login.
