This bug did effect me as well. After upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04 grub was broken and showed a »symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found« error.

Boot Repair Log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7738222/ The system is using EFI, as stated above by Gabriel, .efi files are located at all kind of places and Ubuntu/Grub picks the wrong one.
