I'm not sure adding that info would really help. I mean that'd be like adding a disclaimer to every website: "This site might not display correctly in your browser." ;)
The fact that the minimal dialogs pops up could be due to the fact that only then your graphics card sends the correct signal, so the display settings dialog thinks it has to open the minimal dialog. You could easily test that by unchecking "configure new screens when they are connected" and trying it again.
