I identified the problem and a workaround, but I think the problem should be investigated more in depth.
I was using Feisty before. For different reasons, I had to make a fresh install. So I did a complete backup from my /home Then I installed Feisty. After installing, I copied .mozilla-thunderbird from my backup, so I could use all my old settings. It worked fine but then there was this url problem.
