To fix this in Linux Mint 16 and Ubuntu 13.10, one needs to add the
'acpi_backlight=vendor' to the 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=' in the
'/etc/default/grub' file, running 'sudo update-grub', and then restart
the computer.

For Linux Mint 17 and Ubuntu 14.10, this is fixed by creating/editing the
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf file and entering the following inside:
Section "Device
        Identifier "card0"
        Driver "intel"
        Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
        BusID "PCI:0:2:0"EndSection

Stuff like this should already have been done in the ubiquity installer.

** Description changed:

- On my Laptop, an Inspiron 14R that uses the EUFI firmware, my brightness
- settings and the brightness up/down keys do nothing. This is normally
- fixed by adding the line "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"" to
- /etc/default/grub, running "update-grub", then restart my computer, but
- that didn't work anymore.
+ Attempting to change the brightness settings using CLI tools, the
+ brightness up/down keys on a keyboard, and the stock cinnamon brightness
+ applet, all do nothing.

- When I installed Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 64bit on my laptop selected the
- option to encrypt my partition with LUKS, the above fix doesn't work
- anymore.
+ This is also an issue for Ubuntu.
