I'll have to admit that I was a bit confused in the end there after all purging, reinstalling and installing. Checked my gpu-manager log now and it says that neither nouveau nor nvidia are loaded. Just Intel. In the jockey or 'additional drivers' interface it says nouveau. As I understand it there is no xorg.conf file like there was in the good old days where the driver to use is specified. Seems the situation is all but clear at the moment.
