I've tried to recreate this bug, but I can't. At first gallery2 wouldn't upload my avi but is was because the file was to big to upload. After changing post_max_size and upload_max_filesize in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini and reloading apache, it was fixed.
I tested this bug on a fresh install ubuntu 12.04.4.
