Getting back on this late... but the bug is still there as of trusty.

No big deal, though. I have found out that it is sufficient to invoke
aptitude via a small script that erases pkgstates every time before
running the real aptitude.  Sort of removes the advantage of having a
cache, but better being correct than being fast.
