Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php-pear
I just tried to install xdebug via pecl but it failed like so:

~~~~~
sudo pecl install xdebug
downloading xdebug-2.0.0.tgz ...
Starting to download xdebug-2.0.0.tgz (272,342 bytes)
.........................................................done: 272,342 bytes
65 source files, building
running: phpize
sh: phpize: not found
ERROR: `phpize' failed
~~~~~

After a while I was lucky enough to find a hint in the web, saying that
I'll need php-dev installed. Thus I wonder why the php-pear does not
depend on the php-dev package?

** Affects: php5 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
