Public bug reported:
Inkscape's stable PPA contains incorrectly built Debian packages.
If you look closely at the size of the deb files, they are around 12
KiB. They contain no binary data.
The buildlogs contain a clue:
chroot-autobuild/build/buildd/inkscape_0.48.5+31~ubuntu14.10.1_amd64.deb:
dpkg-deb: file
`chroot-autobuild/build/buildd/inkscape_0.48.5+31~ubuntu14.10.1_amd64.deb'
contains ununderstood data member data.tar.xz , giving up
