I don't think it was the problem with installation media. 

The ultrabook I was installing Ubuntu on was: Asus Zenbook UX301

1) All of the data from the media copied to the disk and the installation 
proceeded.
2) the installation crashed while installing GRUB (which is done in the very 
end of the installation process)
3) the installation worked 100% when I turned off hardware RAID in Asus Zenbook 
UX301 and installed Ubuntu on /dev/sda drive
4) the installation was crashing only when I tried to install Ubuntu on a 
logical 256 GB (2 x 128 GB SSD RAID 1) drive.
