Have to withdraw the comment that the problem is fixed. Since then, had another three freezes, always with 3.13.0-27, always with XEN in kernel, always running on power. None of these three times, a crash report was available, the system just froze.
Will continue experimenting with or w/o battery, with or w/o XEN.
