Public bug reported:

I'm running Xubuntu 14.04 LTS
apt version 1.0.1ubuntu2.1

After last update to 3.13.0-29-generic kernel I've tried to run 'apt-get
autoremove' and it suggested to remove the following packages: linux-
headers-generic and linux-image-generic

In Unity if these are removed the new kernel versions were never offered
anymore on the subsequent system updates until these files were re-
installed back. I'm new to Xubuntu but considering its relashionship
with Ubuntu I would expect the same to happen here (correct me if I'm
wrong, please). Hence I'm submitting this bug report.

I think the packages are not supposed to be suggested for removal when
executing 'apt-get autoremove'.
