I have an MSI H97M-G43 motherboard, H97 chipset but ALC892. Running
Kubuntu 14.04

Installing the 3.15.0-031500rc2-generic kernel did not work, even though
the patch was apparently incorporated.

The suggestion about: echo "options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0
snoop=0" > sudo /etc/modprobe.d/fix-sound-intel97, did not create the
file, did not work.

Instead I added:
options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0

to the end of the file:
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

and rebooted. Sound corruption is now gone!
