I found a quick way to regain the desktop after the hibernation freeze that results in a black screen with mouse pointer only showing. ALT+CTL+F1(mouse pointer disappears, no terminal signon visible). ALT+CTL+F7 and the desktop reappears, of course any active applications are terminated so browser, etc, should be closed prior to closing the laptop lid. Hope that helps some.
