Works now for me, the t61_audio_hack.py is no longer necessary. It was, however necessary for me to open gnome-volume-control, and select the "Switches" tab, and check "Speakers" checkBox. This is on an R61. Now my problem is that the Mute btn mutes, but the vol btn does not increase the vol, or unmute. The vol down btn also does not affect the vol. But much better!
