Hello, I have this same issue after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04, 3.13.0-27-generic, 32-Bit. I have a Dell Precision M6500. Fan cycles on for about 6 seconds (gradually slowing in speed), then stops for just less than a second, then back on again. Repeats endlessly.
It will make you loose your mind after a solid 8 hours of listening. Thanks.
