You should probably give us more info regarding your hardware. I have a GS distro on my old Dell Latitude E6400 and this is what I observe too. Meanwhile, this is 4-year old+ hardware so I am not expecting miracles. The more recent Latitude E6440 I use everyday handles it perfectly.
