The behavior is still the same after I updated the BIOS (which was quite
a pain, by the way because the Lenovo BIOS update ISO only works on CDs
and cannot be booted from USB drives. Thus I had to install Windows to
install the update and then install Ubuntu again).

As I said, nothing has changed. Sometimes (not always) when going to suspsend, 
the screen goes dark, the LEDs indicate suspend mode and the cpu seems to be 
working so that the device gets very hot very fast. This is why I think the bug 
should have a higher importance level than "Low" because it can lead to the 
device overheating.
It is not possible to recover the system from that state. Holding the power 
button until the device powers off seems to be the only way to get out of it.
